It’s easy to point out the All-Star on any given team. They’re usually the ones who are at the center of all the attention, receiving adulation from adoring fans, and standing next to the Mayor whilst holding the key to the city. More often than not, however, the other teammates whose names are not on the marquee are sometimes overlooked. In the case of ESP’s Joe Hamby, he falls into the latter category.

Fortunately for ESP, he has found ways to contribute to his team’s success. Although his work doesn’t have the flair or pizzazz that would label him an All-Star, his work ethic and dedication to his team certainly deserves a spotlight.

Joe Hamby began his career at ESP on November 1997 as a part-time warehouse employee. Early on, it became apparent to upper management that this kid had some potential. Hamby never backed out of any project or challenge that was presented to him. With that bravado, Joe Hamby eventually became one of ESP’s most valued team members.

Today, Hamby’s official title is Junior Programmer. But he has become one of the unofficial “Glue-Guys” that helps keep ESP running efficiently. No longer the “punk kid” that he so eloquently describes himself as, his most recent projects includes the creation of ESP’s generic renewal and invoice lettershop program. Hamby also handles e-mail campaigns, direct mail programs, troubleshoots PCS, and dabbles in Web programming.

Like most role-players on a team, Hamby is more inclined to attribute most of his success to the people he works with. “Jack Miller, Jerry Miller, and Stefan Beeli have been and still are important role models in my life,” says Hamby. He is humble in his response when asked what it’s like to work with them. “They are like my family.”

ESP is fortunate to have someone like Joe Hamby. He is someone who has a team-first mentality. “Anything that would benefit the company,” he answered when asked to describe what he does at ESP. With a statement like that, it is no wonder Joe Hamby has become a different kind of All-Star.
