Referee Enterprises, Inc. (REI) was established in 1975 with the single mission
to produce a magazine for sports officials. Since its inception over 30 years ago,
REI has established itself as the voice and conscience for sports officials around
the world. Today more than 80,000 officials, from all levels and sports, read Referee
magazine each month.
Today, REI is more than just a magazine publisher. Through its Referee Custom Publishing
division, REI produces over 50 publications, newsletters and books each year for
the NFHS, the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA), National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association
(NISOA), the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) and USA Football.
REI, through a joint publishing venture with the NFHS, publishes nine Preseason
Guides which have been distributed to more than 1,000,000 officials in 46 states.
REI also publishes six rules-based books for officials, coaches and fans including
Simplified & Illustrated and Rules by Topic titles for basketball, football
and baseball.
REI and ArbiterSports joined forces to the create ArbiterSports/MyReferee portal
providing officials with an opportunity to view more than 10,000 customized officiating
articles based on their individual preferences.
REI also provides management services for NASO, the Officiating Development Alliance
(ODA) and the National Association of Sports Officials – Organizations Network
(NASO-ON). REI has 20 full and part-time employees.
ABOUT NASO
NASO is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit educational association providing services and
benefits for more than 16,000 sports officials. Since its inception in 1980, NASO
has become one of the officiating industry’s most recognized and trusted organizations.
NASO is run by an 11 member Board of Directors.
NASO is an innovator in developing benefits for sports officials. It was the first
organization to provide officiating-liability insurance protection and remains the
leader in developing and promoting educational materials and personal benefits for
sports officials.
NASO’s latest benefit, Membership Information & Consultation Program (MICP)
provides members, free of charge, access to the best source for officiating-related
information available. Whether it’s a sample form from NASO’s vast officiating
resource library, or an initial consultation from a knowledgeable person hand picked
by NASO, MICP will get answers to member’s sports officiating related questions.
NASO has also played a critical role in legislative matters concerning officials.
Since 1987, NASO’s legislative efforts have resulted in 20 states passing
assault legislation, 15 passing limited-liability laws protecting sports officials
and 8 states passing independent contractor legislation – all designed to
protect sports officials.
Through its worldwide public relations efforts, NASO has been responsible for the
promotion of positive awareness for sports officials. NASO has also been a key player
in developing alliances with governing bodies, as well as state and local officiating
organizations.
ABOUT NASO-ON
NASO-ON provides a helping hand to officials associations in accomplishing everyday
association management tasks. Just as NASO is an educational association for individual
sports officials, NASO-ON effectively provides educational resources and management
tools to leaders.
To date, more than 900 officials associations are active members of NASO-ON. Several
states including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina,
South Dakota and Washington; provide membership to every local association in their
states.
