What is a "site license?"
It's an institutional subscription to The Chronicle of Philanthropy that allows
all the staff members of an entire organization to gain complete access to all of
The Chronicle's Web site. Content normally restricted to individual subscribers
becomes available to everyone.
How is access to controlled? Will our staff members each need a unique user name
No — access is controlled by your organization's Internet Protocol [IP] number or
static IP range. Once these numbers have been entered into The Chronicle's authentication
database, your staff members are recognized automatically and given immediate and
complete access to all requested Chronicle content online. No logging on is required.
Will staff members ever need to create a personal Chronicle account?
Yes — a free Chronicle account is needed if they choose to sign up for free e-newsletters,
receive job alerts, comment on articles, participate in forums, or forward our content
to colleagues. Otherwise, they do not need to create an account to gain access to
our content. Once on the site, identity and browsing history is anonymous.
Will we be able to access The Chronicle's Web site from home, or other locations
away from the office?
Yes — but only if your organization uses a proxy server that allows authorized users
(i.e., your staff members and others you designate) to enjoy remote access to the
online products your organization has purchased.
Our organization is small. We don't have a proxy server. We don't have a static
range of IP numbers. Can I still purchase a site license?
Yes — if your group uses an organization-based e-mail domain address (such as @tx.redcross.org),
we can add your e-mail domain to our authentication database. In this case, staff
members will need to create a free personal Chronicle account using your organization's
e-mail address, and they will need to log on to our site to access content.
Can I purchase both IP and e-mail domain access?
